Doing things that will outlive us

Taking a morning walk as the sun rises this morning on a cold day. Walking through the slowly awakening forest as it patiently waits for spring. There is a saying by Henderson that keeps running through my head one that is so good it is ingrained in me now. Every tree I see I am reminded of it."The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit." When I plant trees I have to look to the future to a time when I will not be here. I have to think of the placement of the tree to how it may grow and visualize 80 or 100 years into the future to what it will become. One of the best practical examples of a live well-lived. My grandfather did this on our property here planting trees in the 1960s and 1970s that he would never fully appreciated and now we and others who visit for weddings, yoga or to recharge and relax. Selfless sacrifice in life. Giving back and giving to others is what makes life meaningful. Looking for a greater purpose, to helping others achieve their dreams and goals, doing things that will outlive us, are the things we find the most fulfilment in.
